50+ Years of
Precision Fabrication
1972
Founded in 1972 by Jim Smith, Sunshine Welding began as a one-man operation dedicated to serving the local community.
When the oil crisis hit the following year, the Merritt Island shop quickly pivoted and grew to meet a surging demand for aluminum fuel tanks amid fuel rationing.
This crisis sparked a new opportunity in sheet metal fabrication, opening doors into the marine industry. The high-quality aluminum fuel tanks and custom sheet metal products were a perfect fit for the boating world.
1980’s
To better serve this expanding market, Sunshine Welding relocated to Port Canaveral in the 1980s and continued to grow, expanding into pipe and tubing manufacturing—producing the T-tops, towers, and railings that remain a cornerstone of the business today.
2006
A major turning point came in 2006 with the introduction of CNC machining and waterjet cutting, giving Sunshine Welding a distinct competitive edge. These advanced, rapidly evolving technologies brought superior versatility, tighter tolerances, and new opportunities to fabricate steel and stainless steel alongside aluminum.
Today, Sunshine Welding is the only shop in the area equipped with two waterjet cutters, providing customers with higher capacity, faster turnaround times, and maximized uptime.
